[Intro]
E E7 A

[Verse 1]
A
Bill Hendriks walked into an indian village,
                                              E7
Where the smallpox plague had done it's dirty work,
       A D
He was turning round to go when a little Navajo,
        E7 A
Reached up and tore a button from his shirt.

[Verse 2]
A
The smallpox plague had left no mark upon him,
                                     E E7
No One lived except this little baby boy,
    A D
And when Bill made sure that he had no fever,
    E E7 A
His lonely heart was filled with peace and joy.

[Verse 3]
   E7 A
He took him home and mother Hendriks fed him,
B7 E E7
And she quickly learned to love him too,
     A D
With charity and patience they both led him,
E7 A
Down the road of life with Bill and Sue.

[Verse 4]
A E
One day Bill said to Sue I'm going huntin',
     A E7
I've noticed that our fresh meats getting low,
    A D
She said I think you should and take him with you,
     E E7 A
It's time you taught the woods to Injun Joe.

[Verse 5]
   E7 A
By nightfall they had killed two deer and skinned 'em,
    B B7 E E7
And then a blizz-ard started in to blow,
     A D
They couldn't find the trail that brought them up there,
     E7 A
Bill finally said I'm lost Injun Joe.

[Verse 6]
           E A
And then a strange thing started in to happen,
                                                    E E7
Through the snowflakes Bill could see Joe's slender form,
   A D
He gathered wood and quickly built a campfire,
       E7 A
But he didn't build it just to keep 'em warm.

[Verse 7]
   E7 A
He watched the smoke and soon found their di-rection,
       B7 E E7
And he led Bill home right through that ice and snow,
   A D
Be-cause Bill spared a life his life was given,
E7 A
Back to him by Little Ingun Joe.
