[Intro]

G D Em C G D Em G D/F# Em
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# G

[Verse]
G D Em C G
Must've been in late September
            D G D/F# Em G
When last I climbed Reunion Hill
         D Em C G
I fell asleep on Indian Boulder
              D G D/F# G D
And dreamed a dream I will not tell
       D G D
I came home as the sun went down
        C D G
One eye trained upon the ground
     D Em C G
Even now I find their things
         D G D/F# G
Glasses, coins, and golden rings

[Instrumental]
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# Em
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# G

[Verse]
         D Em C G
It's ten years since that ragged army
        D G D/F# Em G
Limped across these fields of mine
            D Em C G
I gave them bread, I gave them brandy
            D G D/F# G D
But most of all I gave them time
           C G D
My well is deep, the water pure
                G D G
The streams are fed by mountain lakes
              D Em C G
I cleaned the brow of many a soldier
        D G D/F# G C
Dousing for my husband's face

[Bridge]
                   G D C
I won't forget our sad farewell
                 G D
And how I ran to climb that hill
                       C D
Just to watch him walk across the valley
        C G
And disappear into the trees

[Instrumental]
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# Em
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# G

[Verse]
            D Em C G
Along there in a sea of blue
           D G D/F# Em G
It circles every afternoon
         D Em C G
A single hawk in God's great sky
        D G D/F# G D
Looking down with God's own eyes
          C G D
He soars above Reunion Hill
          C D G
I pray he spiral higher still
           D Em C G
As if from such an altitude
              D G D/F# G
He might just keep our love in view

[Instrumental]
G D Em C G D Em G D/F# G

[Outro]

G D Em C G
Must've been in late September
            D G D/F# Em G
When last I climbed Reunion Hill

COMMENTS:

Richard Shindell often slows this down from the studio version when live. He also usually plays
this in DADGAD with a capo, but I prefer to do it in standard tuning. I was talking to him
before a show many years ago and told him about how one day I was noodling around and stumbled on
this chord progression fitting the words and he nodded and said "yep, that's one way to do it".

Don't take that as "holy writ", but I'm pretty happy with this interpretation. Please enjoy and
let me know what you think!
